Following the unveiling of the Redmi Note 4X handset, Xiaomi has been reportedly discovered to be currently working on unveiling a new smartphone device that is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 processor.
While we are all still yet to get a confirmation from the company, many of Xiaomi’s consumers are not that excited as other reputable smartphone makers like Samsung and LG are rolling out their devices with Qualcomm’s latest chipsets.
According to one report, the company was cited working on the new mobile device that was automatically assumed to be from the company’s Redmi series of smartphones. Following that, a hoard of speculations surfaced online claiming that the device could actually be Redmi Pro 2 or a new series entirely.
According to the render, the snapdragon 660 chip comes with the model number MSM8976 Plus and should be expected to be featured on the unknown device.
Furthermore, one reports highlights that while the model number of both the Snapdragon 652 (model number MSM8976) and Snapdragon 653 (model number MSM8976 Pro) might come across similar, the new chipset, however, is based on 14nm LLP process, compared to the other two, which are based on 28nm process.
Going by rumours, the Snapdragon 660 SoC is likely to feature the custom Kryo cores much like the one with Snapdragon 820 or might otherwise have to sport a combination of four Cortex-A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHZ and four Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz.
In addition, some earlier rumours claimed that the Redmi Pro 2 device will likely roll out with an OLED display and feature a single rear camera with Sony IMX362 with a 1/2.55″ sensor. The smartphone device is further expected to pack a 4500mAh battery.
