I have always loved the ability to add multiple widgets to my Android phone’s homescreen and even though a lot of people see widgets as mere tacky gimmicks with little utility, no one can deny that the most useful and popular widgets for Android are those which tell us the time of the day. Yes, we’re talking about clock widgets, and today we will be listing the top 12 clock widgets you can download on your Android phones and tablets in 2016.
#1. onca Clock Widget
Call me biased but I have the hots for onca clock widget, which is minimalistic, clean and pretty darn cool to look at. You might find reading the time a tad difficult, but the number in the middle of the circle denotes the hour, the shaded outline of the circle tells you minutes that have passed and the orbiting blue dot shows the seconds.
The colors and transparency values can be changed according to your liking and you can also set it to show the current day and date on each side of the clock. If you’re looking for a free minimalistic clock widget to rock your Android phone or tablet’s homescreen, look no further.
#2. Minimalistic Text: Widgets
Minimalistic Text is one of the best widgets on Android period. The level of customizability however can be daunting, especially for newcomers and you may find the interface for setting it up to be less than friendly. But the widget itself is unmatched in terms of flexibility and you can make it show battery levels, weather info and well, the date and time.

The best bit is that you can make it look however you want, and can even integrate custom fonts and choose colors to your liking. If you think you can handle some power usage, you should definitely try this.
#3. Chronus: Home & Lock Widget
The Chronus widget has adorned my homescreen for months on and off, and is quite good at what it intends to do – show you the time, date, battery and weather information. It is simple, yet not purely minimal, but can go with any theme or wallpaper you like.
Customizing it is also quite easy and you can choose which elements you want it to display on your homescreen. If you’ve used CyanogenMod, Chronus is much like the cLock widget available on CM.
#4. One More Clock Widget Free
When it comes to variety of designs and templates, you can’t go wrong with One More Clock Widget. While I personally don’t find all the preset designs to my liking, you will definitely come across some that go with your taste and preferences.
You can also download more clock packs online and the widget is compatible with widget locker as well. The sheer number of options in this widget make it worth the download though.

#5. DashClock Widget
While DashClock is another indispensable widget for Android, it’s ranked lower on this list purely on account of its ‘clock worthiness’. To it’s credit, it is minimal, clean and light and there are enough customization options to keep you from getting bored. However, it truly shines when it comes to its extensions, which allow you to display real time information linked with variables like weather, call alerts, texts and other elements.
Nevertheless, if you’re looking for a comprehensive clock widget that provides other useful information as well, DashClock will serve you well.
#6. DIGI Clock Widget
DIGI Clock Widget is like a more user-friendly version of Minimalistic Text Widget with a variety of different fonts you can choose from. Customization options including setting different colors for the time display, clock background and other standard settings. I’ve also set it up on my Android 7 inch tablet for the longest time and it works really well on larger displays too.
#7. Ultimate Custom Clock Widget (UCCW)
When it comes to pure customization, Ultimate Custom Clock Widget (UCCW) takes it to a whole new level. The widget app is free and lets you download preset widget skins (free and paid) and set up custom designed clock widgets that can also show other system information like battery levels and weather.
Apart from downloading skins from others, you can also make your own on the go and design your widgets quite easily (but it’s not that easy to create stellar skins without some graphical expertise and input). Even if you don’t want to create your own though, you can find some really good UCCW skins for free.
#8. Pretty Binary Clock Widget
It shows time in binary code and looks good while doing it – need I say more? The Pretty Binary Clock Widget is minimalistic and goes well with any theme as long as you can actually read the time on it.
mClock is a free, fast, clean and lightweight clock widget which gets the job done in style. It’s not flashy or over the top and offers just the right mix of style and utility. You can choose from various layouts, fonts and sizes and display both the time and date on your homescreen.
#10. Clock Now
If you like Google Now’s design, you will love Clock Now. It is a great looking clock widget for your Android phone or tablet and mixes up the time with quick setting buttons and other system information if you want. The widget is free to download and has no ads, plus the minimal, clean cut design makes it a definite download.
#11. ClockQ – Digital Clock Widget
ClockQ is quite similar to Digi Clock and has a fair variety of customization options available for free users. You can choose from over 20 fonts and set colors and transparency to your liking. However, the layout editor and battery level display are only available for premium users.

Last on our list but definitely not the least, BobClockD3 is an open source clock widget with basic customization options. While, it can really make for some great looking homescreens with the right wallpaper and icon packs, the widget’s resolution does appear a little dated on newer HD displays.
