Say, how much RAM does your phone have? Would you like to own one with two or three times more? Android pals in China will soon have that chance. This week, Vivo announced the Xplay5. A beast of a phone, housing a Snapdragon 820 processor and a 128GB internal storage. But that’s not what makes it special. What is it you ask? It’s that it is the first smartphone announced with 6GB of RAM.
The Chinese company has made inroads in the past with quite a few noteworthy smartphones and the all new Vivo Xplay 5 has mouth-watering specs that yet proves the company’s capability in innovating under this platform.
The Xplay5 has a 5.43 Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440. And because that isn’t premium enough, the screen is curved on both sides like the Galaxy S6 Edge. Vivo is using this screen plus the 6GB of RAM to provide users with a form of split-screen multitasking.
The rear camera has 16 megapixels and the front one manages to have half as much. It has a fingerprint reader on the back, and the battery packs 3,600mAh of juice and an overall metal design.
On the downside, buyers will only get Android 5.1. They also won’t have NFC or a USB Type-C port. Vivo is demanding about $650 for this phone and around $100 less for the lower specced version, so no, this won’t be cheap when it’s finally up for sale. But hey look on the bright side of things, it has 6GB of RAM.
