After the Samsung Galaxy S6 was released in April this year, many rumors arose claiming that Samsung was working on releasing a smaller version of the phone known as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini, as is the company’s tradition with its S series of smartphones.
A few months ago, an alleged live image of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini was leaked along with a few rumored specs of the phone. Subsequently, no other information was heard about the supposed smartphone and Samsung itself did not give any statement confirming the phone, which made us wonder whether the phone was actually going to come out.
Recently, a Samsung smartphone bearing the model number SM-W2016 was spotted on the GFXBench database, with a large portion of the device specifications revealed.
This smartphone is now being presumed to be the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini. While we are not sure that the SM-W2016 is indeed the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini, we will refer to the smartphone as the SM-W2016 in the rest of this article.
Below are the specifications of the SM-W2016 as seen on GFXBench website.
The phone is said to come with a 4.6 inch display with a a resolution of 1280 x 768. It is also expected to be powered by the 64-bit Exynos 7420 Octa-core processor (4x Cortex A53 and 4x Cortex A57) as seen on the Galaxy S6, along with the ARM Mali-T760 MP8 GPU, backed by 3GB of RAM. The device may also come with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 OS out-of-the box.
Other specs of the device seen on the GFXBench’s website include the phone’s internal storage which is reported to be 64GB, a 16MP rear facing camera with HDR, autofocus, face detection, and a flash, along with a 5MP front-facing camera, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi support.
Some of these specs are the same as those seen on previous leaks, except that the device was previously reported to come with a Snapdragon 808 chipset backed by 2GB of RAM, which has now been replaced by the Exynos 7420 and 3GB of RAM.
Another source is also reporting that the Samsung Galaxy Mini will come with the same design and the same metal-and-glass build as seen on the Galaxy S6 but like most Galaxy Minis, it will be lighter and more compact than its parent phone (it will also be cheaper than the Galaxy S6).
Keep in mind that Samsung has not yet confirmed that the SM-W2016 is indeed the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini and we also have no word of a release date yet, so the SM-W2016 may just be a prototype which might never be released.
Either way, we’ll update you guys as more details emerge, meanwhile, comment below to let us know your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Mini/SM-W2016 and its specifications.
