The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge start shipping out today around the world and if you’re getting one, you’re probably wondering how to transfer data, import contacts and sync your settings to your new S6 from your old device.
Old Samsung users are familiar with Kies, the popular management suite bundled with the company’s phones and tablets. However, both the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are not compatible with Samsung Kies and will instead work with Samsung’s new Smart Switch software.
Samsung Smart Switch is available for your desktop, laptop (Windows and MAC OS) and mobile. You can either download it for your PC and then connect your new Galaxy S6 via a USB cable to synchronize contacts, calendar and settings. You can also use the software to create backups and update your S6’s firmware in the future.
Alternatively, you can download the Smart Switch Mobile app from the Play Store (linked below) on both your old and new devices and then move contacts, calendar events, text messages, settings and media files wirelessly.
Minimum Requirements for Smart Switch PC software are as follows:
Windows XP (SP3), Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8
Mac OS X 10.5 or later
1.8 GHz Intel or faster processor
The mobile version of the app requires Android 4.1 or above to run properly, so even your old Android phone needs to be updated to Jelly Bean at least.
