After HTC revealed its plans to bring the Marshmallow update to its flagships, a list of devices surfaced on the web and amongst them, is the HTC One M8.
Recently, the HTC One M8 received Bluetooth SIG Certification, hinting that the Marshmallow update was coming to the device soon.
More so, this update was expected to hit respective devices earlier in October, but HTC’s Vice president, Mo Versi announced on Twitter last week that the Android Marshmallow update for the HTC One M8 had been slightly delayed so as to enhance the software for an optimal customer experience.
Presently, it looks like the company has finally released the much anticipated Android 6.0 update to its One M8 smartphone as users of the aforementioned device have already started getting the update.
Unfortunately, for now, the update is only available for the Google Play Edition (GPE) of the HTC One M8, which is known to feature stock Android with no skinning.
Mo Versi also took to Twitter to confirm that the update for HTC One M8 GPE users is live, but sadly, the update won’t be hitting the rest of the HTC variants until the coming weeks if not months.
The update is reportedly 450.4 MB in size and can be obtained via OTA, or if you are feeling adventurous you may go ahead and manually update your device. The update comes with all things Marshmallow and you’re in for the latest features Android has to offer.
Meanwhile, the current flagship in the HTC One A-series of phones, the One A9, has been unveiled and it is expected to be available for purchase sometime this month. The smartphone comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box along with HTC’s own sense UI atop of it.
The company has also announced plans to roll out the Marshmallow OTA update to its M-series flagships, the One M8 (Sense-enabled model) and M9, before the end of 2015.
Other HTC smartphones scheduled to receive the update include:
- One M9+
- One E8
- One E9
- One E9+
- One ME
- One M8 EYE
- Desire 826
- Desire 820
- Desire 816
- Butterfly 3
The above mentioned devices are in queue to receive Android 6.0 but there is no known date for the OTA roll-out yet, so users of these devices will have to exercise a little patience and stay tuned for more information.
