Top 10 Best Android Widgets Ever (Even in 2017)

Homescreen widgets on my Android phone now play an essential role in my daily life. When I first used an Android phone, I instantly fell in love with these live tiles (or so I thought of them) and they’ve gotten better over the years. Now that 2017 is here, some of the widgets (and their respective apps) are still just as useful and just as awesome, so I am sharing the top 10 best Android widgets ever with you guys now.

Since this is a general list of the best Android widgets, it includes all types of widgets, including clock widgets, weather widgets, toggles, social media and any other widgets that made the cut. You can look at some of our other posts for more specific widget selections.

#1. DashClock Widget

Choosing the first widget on this list wasn’t exactly easy, but I have to say DashClock is worth the top spot. While you will be forgiven for thinking it’s just another widget, trust me when I say it can really change your Android experience and get you hooked from the first time you use it. After you install it (Play Store link is below), you will be able to set it on your phone or tablet’s lockscreen, as well as the homescreen.

However, it is the former (lockscreen) where it really does its magic. You will find almost any extension you want and some of the ones I found really useful were word of the day, battery stats, world time and weather updates. Alongside these, the widget also gives you multiple panes for your lockscreen, allowing you to create a homescreen of sorts before you go to your actual homescreen (I know it can sound a bit confusing).

Nevertheless, there are tons of customization options, including the general appearance of the widget and the information you want it to display. If you haven’t tried it as yet, you must give it a go today. Just remember that it only works for phones and tablets running Android 4.2 or higher.

#2. Google Keep

The Google Keep widget is second on my list and my homescreen can’t do without it. While the app itself works great for jotting down quick notes, saving images and creating to-do lists, the widget is an essential feature. If you set it up on your homescreen you can see all your notes and lists quickly, scroll down for more and even add new ones on the go. The widget is fast, smooth and can sync all your notes over multiple phones and tablets when you set them up with your Google account. All in all, if you want a good widget for quick notes, reminders and to-do lists on your Android phone or tablet, Google Keep is a must try.

#3. Plume for Twitter

This is more of a personal choice, depending on whether you use Twitter or not. If you do though, Plume has one of the best widgets for Twitter on Android. I’ve currently set it up full-length on one of my homescreens and it syncs automatically with the main app to update Tweets in real time. Replying to tweets, retweeting or posting new ones directly using the widget is easy and you can also customize the appearance of the widget and select from different lists to check tweets, direct mentions and messages. The free app has ads, but also lets you set up more than one Twitter account if you need to.

#4. Power Toggles

Power Toggles is another useful homescreen widget which lets you quickly toggle functions like Wifi, GPS, Bluetooth, Mobile Data and many more. The widget is also customizable and you can choose from around 40 different toggles alongside application and system shortcuts for quick access. While all of these toggles and settings are accessible through the notification bar, having this widget can save a lot of time and a few swipes and taps.

The app was not found in the store. 🙁 #wpappbox

#5. Zooper Widget

Zooper Widget adds a whole new level of customization features to your Android phone or tablet and can lead to some epic-looking homescreens. You can download tons of different templates and create your own custom widgets with different information heads like system information, weather details, calendar, connection information and time. There are both free and paid versions, but the free features are enough to excite anyone with the possibilities.

#6. 1Weather: Widget Forecast Radar

While there are literally tons of weather widgets for Android, 1Weather is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best. If you haven’t tried it as yet, you should download it right now. 1Weather really has some of the best looking weather widgets with different variations and they are backed by features like real-time updates, reliable forecasting and animated depictions of the time and weather. You can also share the current weather over social networks and the widget can also be integrated into the DashClock widget (#1 on this list).
