Earlier we posted rumored specs for the Motorola Nexus 6 and they were almost right on the mark (except for the battery capacity). Now however we have the official announcement from Google along with the confirmation that the new Nexus phone will come with Android’s new version named Lollipop.
The Nexus 6, built by Motorola (as opposed to the Nexus 5 from LG) is much like the Moto X, but bigger. The screen size is 5.96 inches, which is bigger than other mainstream offerings like the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Nexus 6 also has a turbo charger, which, according to claims, can give you around 6 hours of backup time with just 15 minutes of charging. This would be very handy because battery capacity and backup times are a huge bottleneck when it comes to smartphones.
The camera on the device has also been taken up a notch to 13 megapixels, with a front-facing 2 megapixels unit. This means people who love to take photos should be happy with their Nexus upgrade. However, the design is not very inspiring and isn’t something that will turn heads (I like its back more than its front). Yet, it’s minimal and neutral, making it a good fit for nearly everyone.
Android’s new version (5.0) Lollipop is also a major leap for the operating system. Apart from performance improvements, 64-bit support and improved battery consumption, the new OS also features a new user interface, which sports a more contemporary, flat design.
All this also comes at a price, at least this time. Google has probably decided that it’s time it stops taking hits for the Nexus line, and the Nexus 6 is going to be priced at $649 (unlocked). Pre-orders for the device start from October 29 and you’ll be able to get your hands on one in stores starting November.
