Even avid Android fans have been waiting for Apple’s new announcement regarding the new iPhone 7, which has been eagerly anticipated by both fans and critics. Today, Apple has finally revealed and officially announced the new iPhone 7 and we are bringing you everything about it so far.
Apple’s September 7 keynote event started at 10am PDT with Tim Cook making an entrance and then announcing the arrival of Super Mario Run on iOS.
Further announcements were related to iWork, and then Watch OS3 with a new Watch Series 2 entry and a Nike Plus version of the Apple Watch.
This was then followed by the main announcement for most – the new iPhone 7.
In terms of the iPhone 7’s design, rumors were already reporting that the company went with almost the same metallic frame as that of the iPhone 6 minus the antenna bands.
The company has however announced two black variations of the phone, one with a very glossy finish and one with a matte look.
Moreover, the home button has been redesigned to work like the electrostatic wheel of the new iPod, and now has the Taptic Feedback engine, which is also part of the Apple Watch (Apple Watch Series 2 was also announced recently).
There is no dual lens system present at the back of the iPhone 7, but the company has included a 12 MP sensor with optical image stabilization. The camera also has four LEDs in the two-tone flash with a flicker sensor.
Live Videos have also gotten better with stabilization and editing, while the front camera on the new iPhone 7 comes with a 7MP sensor for Facetime and selfies.
The main news for photographers is the presence of a dual lens setup on the iPhone 7 Plus, which includes two lenses allowing for optical zoom functionality a little like modern DSLR cameras.
Depth of field is also possible now with the new telephoto lens on the iPhone 7 Plus making for great photos on the go.
Display wise, the retina HD display has gotten better with higher brightness, a wide color gamut and color management. 3D touch is still there and iOS 10 tries to integrate it better with other apps and options.
For sound, the new iPhone 7 features stereo speakers, one at the top and one at the bottom. The company also revealed that they are two times as loud as previous generation speakers.
The new iPhone also does away with the 3.5mm audio jack as rumored and is moving to lightning connectors. The new iPhone will however come with a lightning to analog connector for those who want to use their old audio devices.
Wireless audio as a vision was also revealed by the company with a new product – the AirPods, which connect wirelessly, and work well in tandem with both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. The wireless AirPods deliver incredible sound and run upto 5 hours on a single charge.
The presentation moved on to Apple Pay developments, citing the growing use of the company’s wireless payments platform around the world. Japan was revealed as the new frontier for Apple Pay with the use of felica NFC standards.
Finally the new iPhone 7’s performance stats were revealed – the new iPhone is powered by a new chip, called the A10 Fusion – which is a 64-bit Four Core processor.
Two cores in the A10 are high performance cores, which are twice as fast as previous generation chips. The other two cores are high-efficiency cores which basically save power when the phone is running low-load processes.
Graphics chip on the iPhone 7 is also updated, with a 6-core set up that is again twice as fast as the GPU chip on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
In terms of battery life, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus feature the longest battery life with over 13 hours of WiFi browsing and the same duration of video playback.
All in all, the new iPhone 7 is the best iPhone the company as made so far. And before we forget, the phone also has water and dust resistance.
