The Oppo R9 series of devices – Oppo R9, Oppo R9 Plus, Oppo R9S and Oppo R9S plus – turned out to be the most loved smartphones of 2016. These handsets were the reason why the Chinese brand Oppo was ranked number 1 in terms of the market shares beating other Top Dogs like Samsung, Huawei, and Apple in China.
2017 kicked off and this OEM was still making waves in the market dishing out different color variants of the R9S. Nonetheless, that was not enough for them to retain the top spot for the Q1 of 2017 as Huawei has claimed this position. This report was given to us by the well-renowned market research firm, Canalys.
In the first quarter of this year – January to March –, the folks over at Huawei shipped out up to 21 million smartphones which has, in turn, won them about 18% of the market shares. The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus which they recently launched has proven to be a good investment by the manufacturer and just like Oppo, we can attribute thier success to these handsets.
However, Huawei has to work even harder if they want to keep this position as they just edged out Oppo by a little. The reports has it that Oppo dish out just under 20 million units bringing them to the second position on the board.
The analytic data also reported Vivo, coming in to claim the third spot with 17million units shipped out just in the first quarter of this year. This had won them 15% of the shares in the market.
In all, an estimated number of 114 million handsets were shipped off it the first quarter of 2017, which means that the three above mentioned manufacturers had contributed in shipping out about half of that amount. This leaves us to wonder what other manufacturers like Xiaomi have been up to.
We all just hope that they step up before the end of the Q2 which is roughly a month away.
