HTC One Mini or the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini?

Given the recent trends followed by smartphone manufacturers, it is no surprise that HTC officially announced a smaller version of its current flagship, the HTC One. Both HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 are large devices (4.7 and 5 inch screens respectively) and for people who prefer mini versions of these flagships, the choice will soon be between the Galaxy S4 mini and the HTC One mini. Here we will take a look at both mini versions to see which one comes on top.

As far as processing power is concerned, both the HTC One mini and the Galaxy S4 mini sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 chipset. However, the HTC One mini has a 1.4 Ghz dual-core, compared to S4 mini’s 1.7 Ghz. While it may seem like a minor difference in terms of numbers, it does translate into a tangible performance difference when it comes to CPU intensive apps and games. The HTC One also falls behind when it comes to RAM, since it only has 1 GB to go against S4 mini’s 1.5 GB. Internal memory comparison is a little more complicated, with the One mini being limited to 16 GB, with no memory card support and the S4 mini having only 8 GB, with external memory support. However, the display is where HTC One mini takes the lead with its 720p resolution 4.3 inch screen with 342 ppi. The Galaxy S4 mini, disappointingly, only has a 256 ppi display with a resolution of 960×540.

Both devices have Adreno 305 GPUs, which means you won’t have trouble playing the latest games on either phone. Camera results will need to be seen once we have photos taken by the HTC One mini, but the S4 mini has the standard 8 MP sensor. The Galaxy S4 mini is also expected to best the HTC One mini when it comes to battery life, since the former has a 1900 mAh removable battery, compared to the latter’s 1800 mAh non-removable one.

If we compare specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini beats the HTC One mini in all but the display resolution, but add to that HTC One mini’s premium build quality, and it might be enough to sway customers.
