Earlier this month Google announced their intention to make health related information show up in search from the knowledge graph to facilitate searchers. Now these health cards are live and they work well to provide basic disease information, symptoms and other details.
The purpose behind these results was to make health related searches less tedious and give users access to the most relevant (even if basic) information as fast as possible. If you’ve ever searched for certain diseases, you probably know how difficult it can be to get reliable information.
According to Google, the health cards are going to present the most common symptoms and treatments for diseases along with any illustrations required. Moreover, all this information is curated and reviewed by professionals with real-life medical expertise.
Currently, these cards are online and they aren’t just for the more common diseases. Some of them have illustrations and images while others don’t, but the information is accurate, reliable and quick. You can give it a go now using Google Now on your Android phone or tablet and see what you can come up with.
We’d love to hear what you think about these health information cards. We’d also like to get your views on Google taking content creation into its own hands and how that can possibly undermine other content creators, who may not stand a chance once Google starts pushing information on its own.
