We’re sure you know Facebook acquired WhatsApp for a whopping $19 billion, and now the social media giant is testing integration between Android apps for the two hugely popular services. For now, a new ‘send’ button is being tested, which will allow you to share news from your Facebook feed with your WhatsApp contacts.
First covered by GeekTime, the Facebook Android app can be seen to include the send to WhatsApp button (as shown in the screen shot below).
With this, it can be expected that users from both services will cross over, leading to an overall increase in both their userbases. While this is a start, we can expect more integration between the two giants, especially WhatsApp’s voice calling feature, which can be synced with your Facebook app to allow you to directly call your Facebook contacts via WhatsApp.
Similarly, there are rumors that messages across both services may also be allowed. However, it remains to be seen whether they combine Facebook Messenger with WhatsApp or keep them both as separate services in their own right.
What do you think about Facebook and WhatsApp integration? Do you use both services daily? Will you be sharing Facebook news with your WhatsApp contacts? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this.
