One of the biggest advantages of smartphones, especially Android phones is that you can easily block unwanted calls and texts without having to subscribe to carrier provided services (which often cost money). There are several Android apps which allow you to create blacklists for numbers or contacts you want to block and today we will look at one of the leading apps – Truecaller for Android.
Truecaller doesn’t just let you block texts and calls but also works as a caller identification service on your Android phone, allowing you to identify callers even if they are not in your contacts list. This is done using the apps huge database of verified numbers and all you need is a data connection (3G or Wifi) to detect callers.
The Truecaller community is very active, and the app also allows you to connect with people on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Google+. You can even create your own profile and contribute to the community by reporting spam and unwanted or unsolicited sales calls.
The app also adds a reverse number lookup on Android phones, allowing you find out cell phone and land line numbers (even if callers use pre-paid phones).
One of the more exciting features of this app is that it lets you find other people and reach out to them. The app can even alert you about known contacts and friends and helps you stay in touch with them by automatically updating birthday information.
People can search for you if you have a Truecaller profile, and if you opt for Premium subscription you can find out who has been looking at your profile and send invitations to people outside your personal network (limited to 30 requests per month).
Just like the app lets you block numbers from calling, it can also prevent people from sending you text messages. So basically, Truecaller is your all-in-one solution to manage Android contacts, calls and texts.
