As a single-player title that works across all common gaming platforms today (mobile, PC and console), Batman: The Telltale Series is the newest superhero graphic video game to watch out for this year. Set to be released this September, the game is developed and published by Telltale Games, who are known in the video game industry for creating adventure game series based on popular licensed properties, such as The Walking Dead, Jurassic Park and Minecraft.
The new Batman game also made an appearance at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) last month. The first season composed of five episodes and will be released this “summer on consoles, Macs and PCs,” according to a report by Jon Fingas on Engadget.
“You can download episodes as they become available, of course, but there will also be a Season Pass Disc at retail that unlocks the first season. It’s too soon to tell whether or not Telltale’s Batman will be as successful as Rocksteady’s Arkham titles,” based on the Engadget post.
Batman is one of DC Comics’ biggest draws when it comes to superheroes. Thus, many games centering on the caped crusader have hit the shelves previously.
Aside from Telltale Games who will bring the new Batman video title to all gaming all platforms, revered developer Game Realms also has their own The Dark Knight Rises slot title featuring a different take on the streets of Gotham City, which is one of the most popular commercial licensed slot games on Pocket Fruity. In a report by Edison Investment Research, the company said they have plans to expand their market reach to target the 12 million adult social gamers in coming years. Their other popular titles include a slew of commercially licensed games from DC Comics and well-liked takes on mythical heroes like Zeus.
Thus, it’s inevitable that the consumer should expect more Batman-based game titles on different platforms, including on social media as the social gaming trend has turned into a very lucrative avenue for game developers.
After the recent unveiling of the game by Telltale, it was obvious that there are plenty of things to look forward to with the new Batman video game, such as the villains that many anticipate to be included in the game.
In a list featured by Ryan Winslett on Cinema Blend, there are five villains that people want to see in the new Batman video game series: Black Mask that appeared in the Arkham games, Firefly, Deadshot, Court of Owls and The Phantasm.
In the brief trailer shown by the developers, it looks like Telltale is planning to offer Batman fans something new that is far from the usual spin offs of the comic book featuring The Joker, Penguin, etc. So, hopefully Telltale will surprise gamers with a new list of super villains to defeat this year.
The developer also confirmed that players will be able to play as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Gamers are given the opportunity to decide which persona best suits each situation. Telltale Games already confirmed previously that they would add their signature situational gameplay to this title to provide gamers the chance to customize their own storyline depending on how they want the game’s plot to unfold.
The first series of the ‘Batman: Telltale Game Series’ will be released in September and the second is due to be released by the end of this year.
