Android’s new update, 5.0 Lollipop is official and now you’re probably wondering whether your existing phone or tablet will be lucky enough to get the update. Here we’re going to take a look at all the Android devices which are likely to receive the Android Lollipop update.
Google Nexus Devices
Nexus 4 and 5 phones are expected to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update by late November, while the Nexus 7 and 10 tablets should get updates around the first week of November. According to Google’s official announcements, the Android 5.0 developer software will be released on October 17th, while Google Play Edition devices will get updates in the following weeks.
Motorola, which also worked on the Nexus 6, will be updating their Moto X & Moto G models (both 1st and 2nd generations), along with the Moto E and Droid line (Droid Ultra, Maxx and Mini).
Even though no timelines have been provided for these updates, Motorola devices were the first to get KitKat updates, so Lollipop shouldn’t take too long either.
HTC is also on board with Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for its flagship line (HTC One). The HTC One M7 and M8 should be among the first to receive the update (within 3 months of receiving the official software).
Since HTC has worked with Google on the new Nexus 9 tablet, they might also be among the first manufacturers to release Android 5.0 updates for their existing devices.
The Sony devices which have been confirmed for Android 5.0 updates include Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
As for the timelines, the Google Play Edition Z Ultra will get the Lollipop update far earlier than others, which, according to Sony, may get updates in 2015.
Coming to Samsung, there haven’t really been any official announcements regarding Android 5.0 updates. However, the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 shouldn’t have to wait for too long.
Devices which are definitely going to get updates include Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4.
Moreover, the fact that we got a sneak peek of a Samsung Galaxy S5 running Android Lollipop with Touchwiz may indicate that Samsung has already been working on Android 5.0 updates for its devices.
Like Samsung, LG hasn’t officially announced anything either. However, you can expect flagship devices like the LG G2, LG G2 Pro and LG G3 to be updated as soon as possible along with the Google Play Edition LG G Pad 8.3
